Figure Painting
I paint exclusively from life over short periods of time from 40 mins to 6 hrs. These paintings are a record of that experience and are based solely on observation.
Life drawing
Drawing the figure from life is seen by many as one of the true tests an artist can undertake. Drawing over short periods of time from 5 mins to 1 hr, for me it's all about the light, capture it and the form reveals itself. Coupled with a sound knowledge of anatomy the act of drawing the human form has become one of the most enjoyable experiences in my life.
Landscape painting
The landscapes of Scotland and from further afield provide me with all the inspiration I need to produce a varied range of landscapes in oil and watercolour.
Illustration
I've been illustrating for over 25 years for clients as diverse as BP, Standard Life, RBS, National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland, amongst many others. The ability understand and interpret the human form has been pivotal in many of my commissions.
